This week Steven Howard joins me on the podcast show. Steven is an award-winning author of 22 leadership, business, and motivational books. We’ll be discussing a couple of his latest books. His most recent book is Humony Leadership: Mindsets, Skills, and Behaviors for Being a Successful People-Centric Leader.
Humony is a created word comprising human, humanity, and harmony to emphasize the leading of people and the need for leaders to create workplaces of well-being and harmony.
Managing people is a 1980s construct. It is why people leave bosses, not organizations. It is no longer acceptable or relevant in today’s world. Work and the workplace, along with the behaviors, actions, and attitudes of many leaders, have alienated millions of people.
The role of a leader is no longer to be a task overseer and a reporter of results. Rather, the leader’s role today – at every level of every organization – is to be a people performance coach. To be successful, leaders must become people-centric. We’ll be discussing ways this translates to business, sports, and life.
We’ll also be discussing Steven’s other book is Coaching Words of Wisdom: Quotes from the World of Sports to Help You be Better in Business and Life. It is a collection of over 1200 quotes and sayings from a vast array of sports coaches, Olympians, and professional athletes. There are many lessons for life that can be learned from the world of sports – Lessons on success, teamwork, overcoming challenges and setbacks, dealing with adversity, striving to win, coping with losing, and the importance of continuous self-development and improvement.
